Facilities and Directions

P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium

Headquarters for the athletic department, P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium was constructed in 1970. A new wooden competition floor was installed in 1997 and has been the site of numerous NCAA championship events, including the NCAA Div. III women's basketball Final Four in 1993 and the volleyball Final Four in 2000. Both were sold-out events and the volleyball final was the first advance sellout in Div. III volleyball history.

The facility also houses Central's wrestling room, four racquetball courts, two saunas, locker rooms, classrooms, offices and a lab for the exercise science department.

H.S. Kuyper Fieldhouse

A new Mondotrack six-lane, 200-meter indoor track as installed in early 2009 in H.S. Kuyper Fieldhouse. The fieldhouse was built in 1987 and expanded in 1999. There is space for five tennis/basketball courts and indoor batting cages.

Mondo's new Mondotrack was also the track surface for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. The surface builds upon the success of Mondo's world-renowned Super X Performance track, which has been the world's top track for more than 30 years and was the track of the previous eight Olympic Games. Mondotrack was designed to provide optimal traction and a greater contact area than other tracks. It converts the maximum amount of force generated by athletes' foot strikes to energy for maximum energy return, which helps athletes achieve faster times compared to running on other surfaces. Mondotrack also provides excellent athletic comfort and maximum safety with the optimum blend of speed and comfort to accommodate both high competition and training venues. More than 230 world records have been set on Mondo tracks, including five at the 2008 Olympics.

As many as five mats can be used for wrestling tournaments, including the Iowa Conference tourney.

H.S. Kuyper Fieldhouse is annually the site of a large high school indoor track and field meet in addition to Central's home meets. It's an ideal training surface, with more forgiveness and less injury risk than many indoor surfaces.
